A dispatch from the Morton family

Three generationsof neighbors, one counter, every bolt you need.

Prairie Hardware has kept Whitfield’s farms running since 1947. Dale will help you figure out the right tool, cut the key, sharpen the chain saw, and get you back to work today.

The year we opened

Our front door swings about three hundred times on a Saturday. Half the folks call Dale by his first name before he looks up.

Call us, come in, or we’ll drive it out. Whichever gets you back in the field faster.

§ IV — Our story

A Morton has answered the phone here since 1947.

Three generations. Same building. Same bell above the door. My granddad opened in the spring of ’47 because he was tired of driving to Independence for a box of nails. My dad put a second counter in when farmers started calling before breakfast.

I took over in 2004. I added the paint spectrometer, the propane rack, and a dog named Buck. Everything else is about the same.
